Kippax Brass Band Indenture dated 1896

The attached document was given to the band in January 2011 and it is with pride that we are able to show this to the general public.

The indenture was actually found in the loft of a previous Secretary of the Kippax Old Brass Band after his death a Mr Albert Wilson, Albert was the secretary of the band in the 1950’s and had kept it safe ever since.

Most of the information within this document laid the ground rules for future band committee’s and a brief of this is still in a frame in the current band room.

Some of the interesting information is:-

The Rector of the band was Emill B Smith who was also President of the band.

To join the band each member would pay an entrance fee of Three pounds. At that time a fine would be imposed on players being late or not attending rehearsals.

The rules stated that the bandmaster would have complete control of rehearsals and performances, and any member who had refused to obey would be fined as the committee determine.
